SEEKING BOYS VOLLEYBALL COACHES FOR THE 2011-12 SEASON
Club Lehigh Boys Volleyball will be expanding its number of teams for the
upcoming club season.
Over my 12 seasons with Club Lehigh we have continued to have teams earn
consistent Regional success at the highest levels, as well as teams that
represent the Keystone Region in national qualifiers, winning bids for the
open division of USA Junior National Championships. We have also taken many
beginner players and helped them achieve playing success and satisfaction
that they never dreamed of when they began to play.
In that time our coaches have coached multiple All-Conference, All-State,
and Fab 50 athletes from over a dozen different school districts in Pennsylvania.
Every single one of our athletes that expressed an interest in playing men's
volleyball in college found a place to play at the level they felt matched
their academic and other collegiate goals. Many of our players that did not
play collegiately, because they chose to focus on academics in college, left
us with a life-long passion for the sport and they continue to play as adults,
or go on to become coaches.
Our success continues to expand the number of players that wish to join us
and we want to accommodate as many as we possibly can. This means we must
work hard to bring new coaches into the club.
We are in need of additional coaches who want to make a difference in the
lives of players from age 9 to 19. Our season runs from mid-November
through February. To learn more contact Deb at info@clublehigh.org or 484.239.3688.
ABOUT CLUB LEHIGH
What is Club Lehigh?
Club Lehigh Volleyball Club is a volleyball program for boys, ages 9 to 19.
Our coaches provide training in the fundamentals of volleyball including
skill work, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Club Lehigh is dedicated to the
physical, social, and mental development of its players.
The Details
Each team consists of nine to twelve players.
We run teams from U14 to U18. Teams are chosen without regard to the schools
the players are drawn from. While we cannot make guarantees that every player
will be offered a spot on a team, the Club does make an effort to accommodate
all boys wishing to join, and therefore we run a second or third team at
each age level, as needed.
Practices are held twice weekly beginning in mid-November (except U14s who
start in early December). Gyms all over the Lehigh Valley are used, with
priority in choosing gyms based on where the majority of players on the team
live.
Teams attend tournaments on selected weekends beginning mid-December or early
January. Regional teams play only in PA. Typically, the youngest team attends
4 to 5 single-day events, while the oldest group may attend 7 or 8. Travel
teams also play in events in the Mid-Atlantic and New England States, some
involving 2 days of play.
The Regional Championship/end of the season is always the weekend before
the boys PIAA school season starts.
High School players who have a high school USAV team that registers their
own single-school Club Lehigh team are also eligible to tryout for, and participate
on, a Club Lehigh travel team if they wish to do so. These high school coaches
work with us to prioritize and minimize conflicts between the two teams.
Any high school player who plays on an AAU high school team can also tryout
for, and participate on, a Club Lehigh travel team.
USAV/KRVA governs only the KRVA and USAV tournaments we attend. They have
no jurisdiction over the other divisions of our program, our own events
and our practices, which are governed by our private insurer and the
other governing
bodies
we belong
to.
The Coaching Staff
Club Lehigh prides itself on an experienced and dedicated group of coaches.
The staff is extremely knowledgeable in the sport and challenges players
to improve through both individual and team development. Club Lehigh requires
its coaching staff to maintain minimum certification standards. Many of our
coaches are involved in the sport all year round.
How do I get Involved?
Watch the web site in late August for September open gym dates. Attending
an open gym does not obligate you to tryout or join the club, it is merely
an opportunity to meet some of the players and staff while having some fun
playing. You do not need to attend any open gyms in order to tryout. Tryout
dates are posted in September.
The Cost of Participation
Club Lehigh does not receive sponsorship funds. Consequently, each player
is assessed a participation fee. This fee is used to pay for the cost of
training facilities, uniforms, equipment, and tournament entry fees. Our
coaches are not paid, but do receive gas money and hotel reimbursement. Last
season the cost to each player was between $450 and $595 for the season,
depending on the age group and whether the team traveled out-of-state.
If you have difficulty with the financial obligations associated
with playing club volleyball, please don’t rule it out, as there are
options available for scholarships, fundraising and working off fees through
jobs within the club.
